Bout of Books 13 Day 5 Challenge: Book Cover Color Challenge

For today’s challenge, I had to find 4 books with matching cover colors. I went with red as my main color and then there are yellow and white accents on the books. I have not read any of these books so let me know if these are ones I should get to soon.

Bout of Books 13: Day 1 Bookish Survey Challenge

Hello, everyone!

I have not done any reading yet today which is a great way to start out the read-a-thon (-_-) but after this, I plan to grab a cup of coffee and get some serious reading done. I decided to participate in the challenge for today. It is called the Bookish Survey Challenge and I basically just answer the 5 questions below to tell you a little more about me.

1. How do you organize your shelves?

Right now, the are organized by genre. However, I have been known to organize them in many different ways such as by color, size, alphabetical order, etc.

2. What is one of your favorite book that’s not in one of your favorite genres?

I loved Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell which surprised me because I do not usually like contemporary books.

3. What is the last 5 star book you read?

The Tombs of Atuan by Ursula K. LeGuin

4. What book are you most excited to read during the read-a-thon?

The one I picked up first which is I am the Messenger by Markus Zusak

5. What book do you recommend the most?

The Snow Child by Eowyn Ivey

If you have not read this book, you should check it out as soon as possible. It is a truly magical story.

That’s all for me today! Make sure you check out the challenge here and check out everyone else’s answers linked on that page.

Thanks for stopping by!

Bout of Books 13: TBR and Posting Schedule

Hello, everyone!

Are you getting excited for Bout of Books 13? I definitely am! To celebrate my graduation from college and the beginning of summer, I went on a huge library spree and brought home a bunch of books. I am currently finishing up one book and then I will move onto my TBR once I am done with it. These are the ones I will be focusing on for this read-a-thon:

photo (1)

The Encyclopedia of Early Earth by Isabel Greenberg : A graphic novel I have been eyeing for a while now

The Girl of Fire and Thorns by Rae Carson : Book 1 in a YA trilogy

I am the Messenger by Markus Zusack : Been on my TBR ever since I read The Book Thief

The Island of Dr. Libris by Chris Grabenstein : One of my favorite children’s author’s new book

The One and Only Ivan by Katherine Applegate : I have heard this one is really good and it won the Newberry Award so I thought I should check it out

I decided to stick with quick reads for this read-a-thon so hopefully I will be able to get through a lot of these during the week. If I feel like reading something else, I will probably read some short stories or a few chapters in Anna Karenina.

As far as my posting goes, I might just do one big wrap-up at the end or update you guys once or twice throughout the week. I probably won’t do a post every day because that just ends up taking a lot of time.

If you are joining, link your post below or tell me what you are going to be reading in the comments. Here’s to an awesome week dedicated to reading!

Bout of Books 13 Announcement

Hello, everyone!

I know I have not posted in forever but I will be back soon and ready for some hardcore reading as well as returning to a normal blogging schedule. I am working on my last week of college ever and looking forward to graduation at the end of the week. After school is finally done, I am going to be reading a lot more than I have been. That leads me up to Bout of Books 13. What better way to jump back into blogging than to get right into a read-a-thon?

Bout of Books

The Bout of Books read-a-thon is organized by Amanda @ On a Book Bender and Kelly @ Reading the Paranormal. It is a week long read-a-thon that begins 12:01am Monday, May 11th and runs through Sunday, May 17th in whatever time zone you are in. Bout of Books is low-pressure. There are challenges, giveaways, and a grand prize, but all of these are completely optional. For all Bout of Books 13 information and updates, be sure to visit the Bout of Books blog. – From the Bout of Books team

I will be posting a TBR a little closer to the date. I am hoping to really get a lot of reading done during this read-a-thon and am ready to jump back into blogging as well.

Book Review: Cannonbridge by Jonathan Barnes

The book that…perplexed me.

I was sent a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review from Netgalley. I ended up giving it 3 stars on Goodreads. This book will be released on February 10, 2015.

The beginning of this book was a bit confusing yet extremely intriguing. About 30 pages in, I was very invested in it and although I wasn’t quite sure if I understood everything that was happening, I was enjoying the story. As I read, though, this excitement flagged quite a bit. There was a lag in the story around the middle of the book that lasted for a while because I felt like I did not know what the characters were doing and where they were going. By the end of the book, I was extremely confused. I don’t want to ruin the ending for anyone so I won’t say any more but it was a little flat for me.

This book takes place in two different time periods, modern day and late 1900sI thought that the author did a great job of tailoring the writing style to the time period. When I was reading the parts of the book that took place in the past, It felt like I was reading something that was written in the past which enhanced my reading experience.

I love the references in this book to famous authors such as Mary Shelley, Edgar Allen Poe, and the Bronte sisters. I just thought that this added a really fun element to the book. Overall, I really enjoyed reading this book. However, there was something in the way it was written or in the way plot unfolded that kept me from being completely sucked into the story. I felt like the author didn’t really flesh out the ending of the book and it left me more confused than anything.

Friday Reads: 1/16/15

Hello, everyone!

This weekend, I have quite a variety of books that I am reading. The first is a book called Cannonbridge by Jonathan Barnes.

This is a book I received free in exchange for a review from Netgalley. You can be expecting a review if it sometime in the next week or so. I am about 25% of the way through it and really enjoying it so far.

I am also going to be picking up the third volume of the Sandman graphic novel series Dream Country by Neil Gaiman. I just recently finished the second one and can’t wait to read the next one.

I am also still working my way through Anna Karenina. I have hit a bit of a dry patch in the story and hope to get back to the more interesting points of the plot.

That is what I will be reading this weekend. Let me know what you will be reading down below

Thanks for stopping by!
